Letters, 1829-1879.

The collection comprises 20 letters, one print and the photocopy of a press clipping from 1863 regarding Cooke's donation to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. The etching, dated London 1829, is from the Fifty plates of shipping and craft published in 12 parts by Edward Cooke "under the superintendence" of his father, George Cooke, in 1828-1829. Several letters dated between 1862 and 1873 were sent to friends inviting them to dinner, or to see his pictures before they were sent to exhibitions. Others refer to donations to charities or memorial funds. A dinner invitation to Sir Edwin Landseer asks him to fetch his horns and see Cooke's Venetian glass (1865 July 18). A printed invitation to a Miss Loddiges to a garden party was presumably sent to Jane Loddiges whom the artist married in 1840.
